Living in Mount Martha

Mount Martha is the family heartland of the bayside Peninsula. It has two beaches — South Beach with its rows of coloured bathing boxes and North Beach by the Esplanade — the Briars nature reserve inland, good primary and secondary schools and a village centre with cafes and a supermarket. Mornington's bigger shops are ten minutes away.

The housing is mostly 1970s–90s family homes on big, treed blocks, with a strong run of architectural rebuilds along the Esplanade and on the hill behind South Beach. It is one of the most tightly held suburbs on the Peninsula; families move in for the schools and stay.
